
The Cincinnati Reds wrap up their three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies tonight. The Reds dropped the first game of the series 4-1 before winning the middle game 6-1. The Reds are 6-5 in August, averaging 3.5 runs per game while also allowing 3.5 runs per game. Ahead of tonight’s finale, the Reds activated right-handed pitcher Hunter Greene from the 15-day injured list, and he will start tonight against the Phillies. To make room for Greene, the Reds optioned right-handed pitcher Sam Benschoter to Triple-A Louisville.

Hunter Greene
Greene, in 11 starts this season, is 4-3 with a 2.72 ERA, a 3.42 FIP, a 0.97 WHIP, and 73 strikeouts in 59.2 innings. He has made four rehab starts, going 0-2 with a 6.23 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP, and 24 strikeouts in 13 innings. Hunter Greene has made 83 career big league starts, going 22-28. He has posted a 3.74 ERA, a 3.91 FIP, a 1.17 WHIP, and 558 strikeouts in 447.2 innings. He was an All-Star last season and finished eighth in Cy Young voting.
Sam Benschoter
Benschoter didn’t appear in any games for the Reds during his recent call-up. In 29 appearances with four of those coming as starts in the minors this season, he went 7-3. He posted a 3.78 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP, and 57 strikeouts in 66.2 innings. In five minor league seasons with the Reds, he’s made 116 appearances with 61 of those coming as starts, going 22-27 with a 5.22 ERA, a 1.41 WHIP, and 435 strikeouts in 381.1 innings.
