Cincinnati Reds Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Cincinnati Reds are about to start a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners tonight. The Reds will have Nick Lodolo on the mound facing off against Luis Castillo. The Reds will get back three pieces for tonight’s game as they announced they are activating Matt McLain, Alexis Diaz, and Austin Hays off the injured list. McLain and Diaz have been out with hamstring injuries, while Hays has been out with a calf injury. To make room on the roster, outfielder Jacob Hurtubise and infielder Noelvi Marte were optioned to Triple-A Louisville.

Matt McLain

McLain, this season in eight games, is hitting .214 with an .862 OPS. He has a double, three home runs, five RBI, seven runs scored, a stolen base, and two walks. He missed all of 2024 as he had shoulder surgery in March that ended his season. In his rookie season in 2023, he hit .290 with a .864 OPS. He had 23 doubles, four triples, 16 home runs, 50 RBI, 65 runs scored, 14 stolen bases, and 31 walks. He finished fifth in Rookie of the Year voting.

Alexis Diaz

Diaz, in his five games at Louisville for a rehab assignment, had a 5.40 ERA, a 2.00 WHIP, and eight strikeouts in five innings. Last season, in 60 games went 2-5 with 28 saves, a 3.99 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, and 55 strikeouts in 56.1 innings. He finished fifth in Rookie of the Year voting in 2022 and was an All-Star in 2023. The Reds’ closer has 75 saves over three seasons with a 2.93 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP.

Austin Hays

Hays in three games at Louisville rehabbing, hit .222 with a .756 OPS. He had a home run, two RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Last season, between the Phillies and Orioles, he played in 85 games, hitting .255 with a .699 OPS. He had 18 doubles, five home runs, 20 RBI, 26 runs scored, two stolen bases, and nine walks. In both of those organizations, minor league affiliates he played in nine games, hitting .286 with a .948 OPS. He had a double, two home runs, three RBI, nine runs scored, and five walks.  

Jacob Hurtubise

Hurtubise this season with Cincinnati hit .143 with a .543 OPS in nine games. He had two runs scored and a walk. Last season in 59 games in the minors, he hit .269 with a .746 OPS. He had eight doubles, two triples, three home runs, 15 RBI, 42 runs scored, 17 stolen bases, and 31 walks. In 29 games with the Reds, he hit .185 with a .538 OPS. He had a double, a triple, four RBI, seven runs scored, two stolen bases, and six walks.

Noelvi Marte

Marte, in three games with the Reds, hit .167 with a .452 OPS. He had two runs scored, a stolen base, and a walk. In nine games at Louisville, he hit .353 with a .954 OPS. He had five RBI, six runs scored, three stolen bases, and four walks.
