Cincinnati Reds Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Cincinnati Reds opened the year with an 8-2 victory over the Washington Nationals yesterday behind an impressive outing from Frankie Montas. They got two home runs from Nick Martini from the DH spot while they cruised to their first win of the season. They made two roster moves today on their day off before returning to the field Saturday, March 30th against the Nationals in game two of their series.

1B – Mike Ford

Mike Ford was signed to a minor league deal today by the Reds. The First baseman played in 10 spring training games for the Reds. He had 33 at-bats, five runs scored, three home runs, eight RBIs, and slashed .455/.486/.727 with a 1.213 OPS this spring. Last season Ford played in 84 games for the Seattle Mariners scoring 32 runs, six doubles, 16 home runs, 34 RBIs, and slashed .228/.323/.475 with a .798 OPS last year.

LHP – Sam Moll

Today the Reds sent Moll on a rehab assignment to Louisville Bats their Triple-A affiliate. Moll was put on the 15-day injuries list back on March 27th by the Reds for a Left Shoulder impingement. Moll will head to Louisville for his rehab assignment before hopefully rejoining the big league club. This spring he appeared in two games going 0-1 with a 32.4 ERA over 1.2 innings. He walked four and struck out one during the Cactus League play before injuring his shoulder. Last year Moll pitched for the Oakland A’s and the Reds, he pitched in 70 games total with one start, a 2-3 record, 68 strikeouts, 30 walks, a 3.03 ERA, and a 1.24 WHIP last year.
