Chicago Cubs Roster Moves 4/17

Chicago Cubs Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Cubs are 10-7 on the season and are trying to take the rubber game today from the Diamondbacks after losing in extra Innings last evening. They will start a new series with the Miami Marlins tomorrow at Wrigley. The pitching staff will look a little different as the team announced several moves ahead of the game today.

RHP – Julian Merryweather

The Cubs transferred Merryweather from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list with a right shoulder strain. He had only appeared in four games for the Cubs before making his way onto the injured list. He worked 4.2 innings, allowed four hits, one earned run, one hit batter, two walks, and six strikeouts; he currently has a 1.93 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP on the year.

RHP – Hayden Wesneski

The Cubs recalled Wesneski from the Iowa Cubs at Triple-A today. This year for Iowa, he has appeared in three games, making two starts. He has one win and zero losses in the year, working in 10.2 innings. He has allowed nine hits, three earned runs, two hit batters, three walks, and ten strikeouts. He currently has a 2.53 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP with Iowa.

LHP – Luke Little

Today, the Cubs optioned Luke Little to the Iowa Cubs. Little has appeared in seven games, starting one of those games. He has worked 6.2 innings, allowing four hits, two earned runs, one home run, five walks, and five strikeouts. He has a 2.70 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP on the year with the Cubs.

RHP – Colten Brewer

The Cubs selected the contract of Colten Brewer from the Iowa Cubs today. Brewer has had one loss in six games during the season. He has pitched in 7.2 innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, one home run, two walks, and nine strikeouts.

RHP – Daniel Palencia

The Cubs optioned Daniel to the Iowa Cubs today. He has pitched in three games for the Cubs this year, working six innings, allowing six hits, four earned runs, seven walks, and five strikeouts. In his limited time with the Cubs, he has a 6.00 ERA and a 2.17 WHIP.

Wrap Up:

The worst part is seeing Merryweather being moved to the 60-day injured list. Merryweather is a crucial piece to this bullpen; missing him is a significant loss. Luke Little struggled, as did Palencia during their time with the big club. Hopefully, Wesneski and Brewer can provide some stability to a group that is missing Merryweather for the foreseeable future.
