Chicago Cubs Prospect Check-In: Week 1

The Chicago Cubs kicked off their Cactus League games this past week with their first game coming against cross-town Chicago rival White Sox in a game they won 8-1 on Friday, followed up with another win on Saturday against the San Fransico Giants 8-4, on Sunday they lost 7-0 when playing the San Diego Padres, Monday they lost 6-0 against the Kansas City Royals and Yesterday they Tied the Division rivals Cincinnati Reds 6-6. So after the start of Spring Training games, the Cubs have a 2-2 record.

Chicago Cubs Top 10 Prospects Check in:

OF – Pete Crow-Armstong

Crow-Armstrong has played in three games so far this spring for the Cubs with seven at-bats, has three doubles, two runs scored, one RBI, and is hitting .429 this spring. He currently leads the team in doubles and is showing the club he is more than capable of hitting, which was a concern after his time with the big club late last season.

RHP – Cade Horton

Not playing in the Cactus League MLB games

OF – Owen Cassie

Caissie has played in three spring training games so far this year going hitless, with two walks and one run scored so far this spring. He has been flawless in 4 attempts in the outfield this spring playing both Left and Right field for the Cubs.

INF – Michael Busch

Busch is currently hitting .500 with a 1.167 OPS; he has only played in one game going 1-2 with a walk.

OF – Kevin Alcantara

Alcantara has appeared in three games so far this spring with 6 at-bats one hit and one RBI. Alcantara who is expected to start the year in Double AA before quickly moving up to Triple AAA Iowas has struck out twice already in his 6 at-bats.

2B – Matt Shaw

Shaw has played in 4 games so far this spring receiving 11 at bats. He has three hits, one double, and one triple with three RBIs, and is hitting .273. Shaw has struck out four times this spring, so hopefully the aggressive approach with continue, but with more contact than swing and misses.

2B – James Triantos

Triantos was in the DH slot in his only game this spring seeing four at-bats, with one hit and two RBI during that game.

LHP – Jordan Wicks

Jordan started the Spring opener for the Cubs and went 1.2 innings allowing one run, on two hits and striking out one batter in his first Spring outing. The one run came on a Home Run by Tim Elko of the White Sox.

RHP – Ben Brown

Brown has appeared in one game this spring pitching two innings, giving up two hits, with one walk, and one strikeout, and did not allow a run in his only game of work.

1B – Moises Ballesteros

Ballesteros has seen action in one game getting one at-bat in which he walked during his appearance.

The week ahead

The Chicago Cubs will face the Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday afternoon, then play the Colorado Rockies Thursday to end the month of February. To kick off March games they will face the White Sox on Friday and then on Saturday face the Dodgers in their first split-squad game of the season. Sunday they have a split-squad game against the Cleveland Indians, On Monday they will face the San Diego Padres again and will finish off the week with the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday.
