The Chicago Cubs sit atop the NL Central with a 28-19 record with a two-game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cubs are preparing for a three-game series with the Miami Marlins. Jon Heyman and others have reported that Matt Shaw is returning to the Cubs lineup from Triple-A. Shaw won the opening-day starter job out of camp. He struggled early on. Which forced the Cubs to send him back to Iowa after 18 games. The team will most likely designate Nicky Lopez for assignment to make room on the roster. They will then attempt to trade him. Lopez had just been added back to the Team in April after not making the roster out of camp. Lopez is a reliable defender. He does not offer much offensively to the club. With Shaw waiting in the wings, this move makes sense.

Matt Shaw
The Chicago Cubs will recall Matt Shaw from Triple-A Iowa. This will happen ahead of the series opener with the Miami Marlins. Shaw started the year with the team and played 18 games before being sent to Iowa. He scored 11 runs, hit one double, one home run, and had 10 RBI in those games. Shaw has a .172 batting average with a .535 OPS in the big leagues. Shaw made two errors in the field on his first go-round this year with the Cubs. With Iowa, he has played in 24 games with a .286 batting average and a .969 OPS. Shaw has five doubles, one triple, six home runs, and 14 steals while in Triple-A. The Cubs hope he can be their everyday answer at third base moving forward.
