Chicago Cubs Down on the Farm 3/28-3/31

The Chicago Cubs Triple-A affiliate Iowa Cubs kicked off their season Friday against the Omaha Storm Chaser the Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. They lost the series 1-2 with their only win coming in the series finale on Sunday afternoon.

Chicago Cubs Top 10 Prospects Check-In

OF – Pete Crow-Armstrong – Iowa Cubs

Crow-Armstrong played in all three games for the Iowa Cubs this opening series. He had 13 at-bats with, three runs scored, three hits, one triple, one RBI, one walk, four Ks, and two steals. He is slashing .231/.286/.385 with a .671 OPS on the weekend.

P – Cade Horton – Tennessee Smokies

Horton didn’t pitch this weekend and will play their first game on Friday, April 5th.

OF – Owen Caissie – Iowa Cubs

Caissie picked up right where he left off this spring with his hot bat. He played in all three games this weekend getting 12 at-bats. He scored one run, with seven hits, two doubles, one RBI, two walks, three Ks, and is slashing .583/.643/.750 with a 1.393 OPS on the weekend.

1B – Michael Busch – Chicago Cubs

Michael Busch played in all three games for the Cubs as they lost the series to the Texas Rangers 1-2 to open the season. Busch had nine at-bats, scored one run, had one hit, three walks, four Ks, and is slashing .111/.333/.111 with a .444 OPS on the series.

OF – Kevin Alcantara – Tennessee Smokies

Tennessee Smokies will play their first game Friday, April 5th against Rocket City the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels.

2B/3B – Matt Shaw – Tennessee Smokies

Tennessee Smokies will play their first game Friday, April 5th against Rocket City the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels.

2B – James Triantos – Tennessee Smokies

Tennessee Smokies will play their first game Friday, April 5th against Rocket City the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels.

P – Jordan Wicks – Chicago Cubs

Jordan Wicks pitched the series finale for the Cubs against the Texas Rangers. He started the game going four innings, giving up five hits, two earned runs, three walks, and struck out six on the day. The Cubs won the game, but Wicks did not factor in the decision.

P – Ben Brown – Chicago Cubs

Brow was called up from Iowa Saturday in a move made by the Cubs as they placed Justin Steele on the IL as he is expected to miss the month of April. He made an appearance Saturday night for the Cubs in relief. He pitched 1.2 innings, and gave up six runs, on five hits and two walks. He also struck out one batter over his 1.2 innings of work.

1B – Moises Ballerestos – Tennesee Smokies

Tennessee Smokies will play their first game Friday, April 5th against Rocket City the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels.

The Week Ahead:

Iowa Cubs

The Iowas Cubs have started their year off 1-2 after losing the series against the Omaha Strom Chasers the Kansas City Royals affiliate. They lost their season open in 10 innings 4-3 to the Storm Chasers then dropped Saturday night’s game 7-6 to the Chasers. Tuesday they open a six-game home stand with the Toledo Mud Hens the Detriot Tigers Triple-A affiliate. The Tigers’ Jace Jung is currently ITD’s 77th-ranked prospect and the Tiger’s fourth-ranked prospect going into the season. The Mudhens took on the Nashville Sound in their opening three-game series and won the series 2-1 to open the year.
