Chicago Cubs Continue to Look for Answers at Third Base and More

Cubs continue to look for answers at Third base and More!

The Chicago Cubs had a thrilling comeback last night against the Dodgers. The team came back and won. The error by Gage Workman was enough for the Cubs. Today, in a flurry of moves, they have designated Workman for assignment. They went out and signed Nicky Lopez to a major league contract. This all came after signing Michael Fulmer earlier to a Minor League deal. They selected the contract of the newly acquired Drew Pomeranz.

Drew Pomeranz

The Chicago Cubs have selected the contract of the left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz from Iowa today. He last pitched in the majors back in 2021 for the San Diego Padres. He was acquired from the Seattle Mariners on April 21st via trade.

Gage Workman

The Chicago Cubs have designated the utility infielder for assignment today before the series finale with the Dodgers. After seven games at third base for the Cubs, Workman has a .700 fielding percentage. With three errors in ten chances. The Cubs need better and prove they won’t settle for this move.

Nicky Lopez

The Chicago Cubs have signed Nicky Lopez to a one-year major league contract today. Lopez was not signed for his bat. In 63 career games at third base, Lopez has a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. He has 125 career chances and zero errors. The Cubs need consistent defense. This is necessary until Matt Shaw can get his bat figured out. Nicky Lopez has a proven track record of providing that defense.

Justin Steele

The Cubs have transferred left-hand pitcher Justin Steele to the 60-day injured list today. Steele will miss the rest of the season after having surgery on his left elbow.

Gavin Hollowell

The Cubs have optioned Hollowell back to Triple-A Iowa after pitching two scoreless innings against the Dodgers last night. Hollowell did not give up a hit or a walk and struck out two batters. He will continue to pitch for the Iowa Cubs until his number is called again by the big club.
