Boston Red Sox Top Two Prospects Lead Portland to Win

The Boston Red Sox’s Double-A affiliate, the Portland Sea Dogs, picked up a 5-2 win over the Hartford Yard Goats last night. Shortstop Franklin Arias and right-handed pitcher Anthony Eyanson led the win. Arias is the Red Sox’s top prospect and the tenth prospect in all of baseball. Eyanson is their second overall prospect and the 67th prospect overall. He’s also the 19th overall pitching prospect, while Arias is the eighth hitting prospect.

Arias finished the game going 2-4 with two RBI, a run scored, and a walk. He singled in his first at-bat to lead off the game. His second at bat, he lined out. In his third at-bat, he flew out. In the seventh, he hit a two-run home run to give Portland a 2-1 lead. He walked in his final at-bat. Arias is hitting .326 with a .993 OPS. He has 15 doubles, a triple, 15 home runs, 40 RBI, 39 runs scored, and five stolen bases. 

Eyanson got the ball to start for the Sea Dogs. He went 5.2 innings, allowing a run on three hits. Eyanson walked three and struck out two. He would throw 66 pitches, with 39 of them being strikes. He’s 2-0 this season with a 1.07 ERA, a 0.87 WHIP, and 64 strikeouts in 50.2 innings. He’s made seven starts at Double-A, where both his wins came from. He has a 1.48 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, and 30 strikeouts in 30.1 innings. 

The Game

The scoring came in the second half of the game. Hartford scored first, then Arias gave Portland a 2-1 lead. They got another run on a Miguel Blais solo home run. Hartford added a sooo home run in the bottom of the eighth. Portland would add two more in the ninth for the 5-2 win. Jedixson Paez and Erik Rivera each pitched. Paez got the win, going 2.1 innings, allowing a run on a hit. He walked two and struck out three. Rivera picked up his third save of the season. He went one inning, allowing a hit, no walks, and struck out two. 

Next Up:

The two teams wrap up their series this afternoon. Blake Wehunt gets the ball for Portland with a 2-4 record and a 4.38 ERA. First pitch is at 1:10 PM EST. Arias is leading off and playing shortstop in the game. Eyanson will pitch on Friday against the Altoona Curve.
