
The Boston Red Sox have had a rough stretch to start the 2025 season. They have started the season 1-4 losing today 8-5 to the Baltimore Orioles to start their three-game series. Tonight they did announce that they have signed ace Garrett Crochet to an extension. The prized acquisition of the Red Sox this past offseason has signed a six-year $170 million extension. The deal starts in 2026 and comes with an opt-out in 2030. They also announced over the weekend Brayan Bello will make a rehab start tomorrow with Lucas Giolito following him on Wednesday in Triple-A Worcester.

Garrett Crochet
Crochet was acquired this past offseason from the Chicago White Sox. He’s made just 32 starts in his career. Crochet posts a 6-12 record a 3.58 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP, and 213 strikeouts in 151 innings. He made his Red Sox debut on Opening Day going five innings allowing two runs in five hits; he walked two and struck out four.
Brayan Bello
Bello has made 71 appearances with 69 of those coming as starts. He is 28-27 with a 4.42 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP, and 340 strikeouts in 376.2 innings. Last season in 30 starts he went 14-8 with a 4.49 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP, and a career-high 153 strikeouts in a career-high 162.1 innings. He didn’t pitch this spring for the Red Sox.
Lucas Giolito
Giolito has been in the MLB for eight seasons, making 180 appearances, 178 of those as starts, going 61-62 with a 4.43 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP, and 1077 strikeouts in 1013.2 innings. This spring, he made one start, taking a loss and giving up two runs on a hit; he walked two and struck out one in one inning.
