The Boston Red Sox today will wrap up their three-game series against the Seattle Mariners and also their season series. There is a lot on the line this afternoon with this game meaning the team that wins will win the season series and with the Houston Astros and Mariners fighting back and forth for the American League West it could go a long way to having the tiebreaker for a playoff spot if needed when it’s all said and done. Each team has won three games this season against each other with them splitting the four-game series to start the season then the Red Sox won Monday night and the Mariners won last night. Entering today’s game the Red Sox made some roster moves as they await their trade acquisitions arrival, they have called up infielder Nick Sogard from Triple-A Worcester and they designated RHP Yohan Ramirez for assignment. They also activated Lucas Sims who they acquired yesterday and optioned infielder Jamie Westbrook to Triple-A.

Red Sox Moves By The Numbers

INF – Nick Sogard

Sogard is in his fifth season with the Red Sox system playing in 469 games hitting .271 with a .764 OPS; he has 76 doubles, nine triples, 36 home runs, 207 RBI, 283 runs scored, 73 stolen bases, and 251 walks. This season in 89 games at Worcester he is hitting .279 with a .821 OPS; he has 17 doubles, one triple, 12 home runs, 54 RBI, 62 runs scored, ten stolen bases, and 56 walks. He had an impressive spring and now he’ll be on his first big league roster.

RHP – Yohan Ramirez

Ramirez pitched last night and struggled in his Red Sox debut going 1.1 innings giving up three runs, two earned on three hits; he didn’t issue a walk and struck out one. His tenure on his fourth team this season has been quick with him being designated for assignment.

RHP – Lucas Sims

Sims this season in 43 appearances is 1-4 with a 3.57 ERA, a 4.88 FIP, a 1.42 WHIP, a 5.1 BB/9, and a 10.2 K/9 in 35.1 innings. For his career, he’s appeared in 230 games with 14 of those coming as starts going 22-17 with a 4.41 ERA, a 4.42 FIP, a 1.28 WHIP, a 4.6 BB/9, and a 10.6 K/9 in 292 innings.

INF – Jamie Westbrook

Westbrook is wrapping up his second stint with the Red Sox this season in which he went 2-22 with a double, a home run, three RBI, three runs scored, and two walks. With the Red Sox in 21 games, he’s hitting .150 with a .584 OPS; he had two doubles, two home runs, seven RBI, four runs scored, and four walks. At Worcester in 61 games he’s hit .282 with a .853 OPS; he has 17 doubles, eight home runs, 43 RBI, 32 runs scored, two stolen bases, and 30 walks.
