The Boston Red Sox will face the Atlanta Braves this afternoon to wrap up their short two-game series with Nick Pivetta on the mound against Spencer Schwellenbach. Before the game, they announced a flurry of moves with a pitcher heading to the injured list and a key bat returning to the lineup. First, this morning it was announced RHP Chris Martin was heading to the 15-day injured list with anxiety, and with that move they have recalled RHP Zack Kelly from Triple-A Worcester. The other moves were outfielder Tyler O’Neill has been activated from the 10-day injured list with catcher Tyler Heineman being optioned to Triple-A Worcester after he was called up yesterday when Wilyer Abreu was placed on the injured list.

RHP – Chris Martin
Martin is in his second season with the Red Sox and is in the final year of his deal. Last season in his first season he was a lockdown reliever for Boston making 55 appearances going 4-1 with a 1.05 ERA, a 2.44 FIP, a 1.03 WHIP, and 46 strikeouts in 51.1 innings. This season has been a little different with him making 21 appearances going 2-1 with a 4.22 ERA, a 3.88 FIP, a 1.07 WHIP, and 24 strikeouts in 21.1 innings.
RHP – Zack Kelly
Kelly is in his fourth season with the Red Sox and has made 21 appearances with Boston before this season. In 2024 with the Red Sox, he’s made 11 appearances going 0-1 with a 2.16 ERA, a 4.99 FIP, a 1.26 WHIP, and 14 strikeouts in 16.2 innings. At Worcester, he’s made seven appearances, and he hasn’t recorded a decision posting a 0.00 ERA, a 0.84 WHIP, and 14 strikeouts in 16.2 innings.
OF – Tyler O’Neill
O’Neill is in his first season with the Red Sox after he was acquired this offseason, he’s appeared in 41 games hitting .236 with a .843 OPS; he has six doubles, 11 home runs (tied for the team lead), 17 RBI, 29 runs scored, one stolen base, and 22 walks.
C – Tyler Heineman
Heineman is in his first season with the Red Sox, he’s played in one game going 0-1 in that game, and was hit by a pitch. At Worcester and Double-A Portland this season he’s played in 23 games hitting .239 with a .734 OPS; he has one doubles, two home runs, nine RBI, 14 runs scored, four stolen bases, and 16 walks.
