The Boston Red Sox will try to avoid being swept by the Chicago White Sox today. The Red Sox will have a new ace and former White Sox Garrett Crochet on the mound. Crochet will face righty Shane Smith for the White Sox. Ahead of today’s game, they placed Richard Fitts on the 15-day injured list with a right pectoral strain.

Fitts in the bottom of the sixth left yesterday’s game when he called the trainers out following a pitch. Fitts went five shutout innings giving up two hits; he walked one and struck out five. The Red Sox are calling up right-handed pitcher Michael Fulmer from Triple-A Worcester. Fitts this season was 0-2 with a 3.18 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, and 13 strikeouts in 17 innings. Fulmer at Worcester has made three appearances with two coming as starts going 0-2 with a 3.09 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, and 18 strikeouts in 11.2 innings.

Richard Fitts

Fitts last season made his big league debut, making four starts. He went 0-1 with a 1.74 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP, and nine strikeouts in 20.2 innings. At Triple-A Worcester in 2024, he made 24 appearances, 23 of those coming as starts, going 9-5 with a 4.17 ERA, a 1.28 WHIP, and 111 strikeouts in 116.2 innings.

Michael Fulmer 

Fulmer hadn’t pitched since 2023 when he was with the Cubs. He appeared in 58 games that season with one of those coming as a start. He went 3-5 with two saves, a 4.42 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, and 65 strikeouts in 57 innings.
