Boston Red Sox Roster Moves 4/10

Red Sox Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Boston Red Sox yesterday had their Home Opener as they took on the Baltimore Orioles to kick off a three-game series. The Red Sox would lose the game 7-1 but the story was the ceremony held before the game as they honored Tim Wakefield and his wife Stacy Wakefield with the 2004 World Series team coming out behind the two children of the Wakefield family. The Wakefield’s daughter threw out the first pitch to Jason Varitek, it overall was a very emotional day at Fenway Park and was a fantastic day to be a part of despite the loss, there wasn’t a dry eye in the stadium. About 90 minutes before the ceremony took place, they announced that Trevor Story would be done for the season as he had to have surgery on his fractured glenoid. They also announced that Nick Pivetta was being placed on the 15-day Injured List with a flexor strain, thankfully it is considered to be mild. With Pivetta going on the Injured List the Red Sox have called up LHP Brennan Bernadino.

Red Sox Moves

RHP – Nick Pivetta

Pivetta this season has made two starts and has been on both sides of a 1-0 score. In his first start against the Mariners, he suffered a 1-0 loss going six innings giving up one run on three hits; he didn’t issue a walk and struck out ten. In his second start against A’s, he got a 1-0 win going five innings, he didn’t allow a run on five hits; he walked one and struck out three. After his two starts, he is 1-1 with a 0.82 ERA, a 2.32 FIP, a 0.81 WHIP, and 13 strikeouts in 11 innings. Thankfully this injury is mild but might be something that needs to be watched throughout the season and could be an issue long term but for now, it’s a good sign that it’s mild.

LHP – Brennan Bernadino

Bernadino was claimed off waivers by the Red Sox from the Seattle Mariners last season and he made 55 appearances with six of those coming as spot starts going 2-1 with a 3.20 ERA, a 3.41 FIP, a 1.30 WHIP, and 58 strikeouts in 50.2 innings. To start 2024 he was sent to Triple-A Worcester which was an interesting move with Worcester he has appeared in two games and he has struggled posting a 16.20 ERA, a 2.40 WHIP, and two strikeouts in 1.2 innings. Hopefully now back with the Red Sox he can find his groove again and pitch like he did last year when he became a fan favorite coming out of the bullpen for the Boston Red Sox.
