Boston Red Sox Roster Moves 11/3

Red Sox Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Boston Red Sox yesterday introduced their new Chief of Baseball Operations, Craig Breslow, as he replaces Chaim Bloom, who the Red Sox fired in September after failing to make a significant move at the trade deadline with the Red Sox still in the hunt. Breslow said yesterday he was going to review the roster and make the moves necessary to make the team better in 2024; he started by outrighting Justin Garza off the 40-man roster, making him a free agent, and today, the moves continued as Adalberto Mondesi has elected free agency for 2024 opening up another spot on the Red Sox roster as they are going to be looking to add starting pitching, infield depth, and a right-handed bat.

Adalberto Mondesi By The Numbers

Mondesi signed with the Kansas City Royals in 2011, and he made his debut in their minor league system in 2012, starting at rookie ball. Each year, he progressed to each level, and in 2016, Mondesi made his big league debut, playing in 47 games for the Royals, slashing .185/.231/.281 with a .512 OPS; he had one double, three triples, two home runs, 13 RBI, 16 runs scored, nine stolen bases and six walks. He spent the next three seasons between Double-A, Triple-A, and Kansas City. In 2020, he played in 59 games of the shortened season, slashing .256/.294/.416 with a .710 OPS; he had 11 doubles, three triples, six home runs, 22 RBI, 33 runs scored, 24 stolen bases, and 11 walks. In 2021, he was back splitting time between Double-A, Triple-A, and Kansas City. In 2022, he played in 15 games, slashing .140/.204/.140 with a .344 OPS; he scored three runs, three RBI, five stolen bases, and four walks. His 2022 season was cut short due to injury. Before the 2023 season, he was traded to the Red Sox in exchange for Josh Taylor in the hopes of adding a second baseman option and some speed in the lineup. Still, he never appeared in a game for the Red Sox due to the injury, and now he will not return and will be a free agent.
