Boston Red Sox Prospect Named MVP and Top Prospect

The Boston Red Sox Florida Complex League team’s season has concluded. The FCL Tigers defeated the FCL Pirates at the end of July. The Red Sox team finished 35-24 and in tied for third place in the Florida Complex League South Division. On Thursday the awards were announced for the 2024 season and shortstop Franklin Arias was named the MVP and the top prospect. RHP Juan Valera was also named to the FCL All-Star team.

SS – Franklin Arias

Arias didn’t crack the top 50 international prospects, but the Red Sox signed him on January 15, 2023. In the FCL in 51 games he hit .355 with a 1.055 OPS; he had 16 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 28 RBI, 41 runs scored, 30 stolen base, and 34 walks. He has since been promoted to Single-A Salem playing in 29 games he’s hitting .231 with a .658 OPS; he has five doubles, three home runs, 20 RBI, 13 runs scored, five stolen bases, and 12 walks.

RHP – Juan Valera

The 18-year-old 6’3” 205 righty is currently pitching at Single-A with the Salem Red Sox but when he was in the Florida Complex League, he made 11 appearances with nine of those coming as starts he went 1-2 with a 1.79 ERA, a 1.52 WHIP, and 40 strikeouts in 40.1 innings. Since being promoted he’s made five starts posting a 1.65 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP, and 15 strikeouts in 16.1 innings.
