Boston Red Sox Option Five to Worcester

Red Sox Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Boston Red Sox teased a potential Opening Day lineup in yesterday’s 6-4 win over the Detroit Tigers. This win improved their record to 14-9. Today they will face the Minnesota Twins at 6:05 PM EST at JetBlue Park. After yesterday’s win they optioned infielder Vaughn Grissom and right-handed pitchers Luis Guerrero and Josh Winckowski. They reassigned catchers Nathan Hickey and Mark Kolozsvary. Since they optioned Grissom, the Opening Day second base battle now involves four players. These players are Kristian Campbell, Marcelo Mayer, David Hamilton, and Romy Gonzalez. The other interesting factor is that Winckowski was optioned. This move now opens a spot for Cooper Criswell. Alternatively, it could be for a non-roster invitee player such as Michael Fulmer, or Adam Ottavino. The Red Sox have some interesting questions with opening day a week away.
