The Boston Red Sox are 10-7 entering Grapefruit League play today. Richard Fitts will get the ball against the Miami Marlins. In three appearances this spring he is posting a 1.42 ERA, a 1.58 WHIP, and nine strikeouts in 6.1 innings. He made his lone start of the spring on March 9th going 2.1 innings giving up one run on two hits; he walked three and struck out four. Fitts has a chance to make the Opening Day rotation with the current injuries the Red Sox are going through.

Brayan Bello
Bello will start the season on the injured list due to a shoulder injury. He didn’t make a start this spring but in 30 starts last season, he went 14-8. Bello posted a 4.49 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP, and had 153 strikeouts in 162.1 innings. He spent this offseason working out with Pedro Martinez working on a new pitch. Hopefully, the injury isn’t long-term. He’s expected to be a strong arm at the backend of the rotation in 2025.
Lucas Giolito
Giolito was ready to make his return to the Red Sox this season after missing last season. He made one start this spring going one inning giving up two runs on one hit; he walked two and struck out one. He apparently injured his hamstring on the first pitch of that start and will now start the season on the injured list.
Kutter Crawford
Crawford is dealing with discomfort in the patellar tendon in his right knee. He didn’t make a start this spring. Last season he went 9-16 with a 4.36 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, and 175 strikeouts in 183.2 innings. He is currently on the injured list and will be out at the start of the season.
Quinn Priester
Priester is expected to be in the rotation with the injuries. Priester in three starts has impressed going 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA, a 1.80 WHIP, and five strikeouts in 6.2 innings. In one start with the Red Sox last season after he was acquired by the Pirates he went five innings. He gave up one run on four hits; he walked one and struck out two picking up the win.

Cooper Criswell
Criswell is the other name to watch for the rotation. This spring in three appearances with one coming as a start he is 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP, and eight strikeouts in 6.2 innings. Last season in 26 appearances with 18 of those coming as starts going 6-5. He posted a 4.08 ERA, a 1.35 WHIP, and 73 strikeouts in 99.1 innings.
Rafael Devers
Devers will make his debut tomorrow for the Red Sox. The story of camp had been him not wanting to DH. Now it is confirmed that he is open to moving off third base and will DH this season.
Lineup
Alex Cora said the other day that the starting five for the lineup will be Jarren Duran, Rafael Devers, Alex Bregman, Triston Casas, and Trevor Story. That leaves four spots and right now it would be a scary lineup if it’s Roman Anthony, Kristian Campbell, Connor Wong, and Ceddanne Rafaela. That team could do some real damage in 2025.
