Last season the Boston Red Sox were going “Full Throttle” This season they are moving with “Extreme Urgency.” Last season they were rumored to be interested in Southpaw reliever Aroldis Chapman but he ended up signing with the Pittsburgh Pirates after winning a World Series with the Texas Rangers. Today the Red Sox needing a backend of the bullpen type arm signed Chapman to a one-year $10.75 million contract. 

Aroldis Chapman By The Numbers 

Chapman started his career with the Cincinnati Reds before signing with the New York Yankees. The Yankees traded Chapman to the Chicago Cubs during their 2016 World Series run. The following offseason, he returned to the Yankees. In 2023, he signed with the Kansas City Royals, and after 31 appearances, he was then traded to the Texas Rangers. He spent last season with the Pittsburgh Pirates going 5-5 with 14 saves, a 3.79 ERA, a 3.04 FIP, a 1.35 WHIP, a 5.7 BB/9, and a 14.3 K/9. In his career, he posts a 55-45 record in 796 appearances; he has 335 saves with a 2.63 ERA; he also posts a 2.41 FIP, a 1.11 WHIP, a 0.6 HR/9, a 4.7 BB/9, and a 14.8 K/9.
