Bobby Witt Jr. to Play for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic

The 2026 World Baseball Classic is coming. The current roster for Team USA includes outfielder Aaron Judge, who will be the team captain, and right-handed pitcher Paul Skenes. Today, they added a shortstop as Bobby Witt Jr. announced he will play for Team USA. Team USA will be playing in Pool B, which will be played at Daikin Park in Houston, TX, from March 6-11, 2026. Witt was on the roster in 2023 when Team USA lost to Team Japan. In five games, he hit .500 with a 1.667 OPS. He had a double, an RBI, two runs scored, and a walk.

The Kansas City Royals drafted Witt Jr. second overall in the 2019 MLB Draft. In four seasons, he’s played in 549 games, hitting .287 with a .838 OPS. He has 131 doubles, 31 triples, 92 home runs, 325 RBI, 346 runs scored, 131 stolen bases, and 153 walks. He finished fourth in Rookie of the Year voting in 2022. Witt Jr. made his first All-Star game last season and finished second in MVP voting. He was also a Gold Glover and won a Silver Slugger last season. This season, in 80 games, he’s hitting .282 with .822 OPS. He has 27 doubles, three triples, ten home runs, 40 RBI, 42 runs scored, 21 stolen bases, and 26 walks.
