On Thursday, March 28th, 2024, the Baltimore Orioles recalled left-handed pitcher Nick Vespi from the Norfolk Tides and placed right-handed pitcher Jacob Webb on the paternity list (congrats to Webb and his wife, Magali, on their beautiful baby girl, Hudson). Right-handed hurler Kyle Braddish was also officially placed on the 15-day injured list, retroactive back to March 25th, 2024, to continue his recovery from his season-ending right UCL strain. Left-handed pitcher John Means joined Braddish on the 15-day injured list with a left forearm strain. The Orioles designated outfielder Ryan McKenna and utility player Tyler Nevin for assignment and placed catcher Michael Perez on the Major League Taxi Squad.
On Saturday, March 30th, 2024, the new father returned to Baltimore and was activated by the Orioles, while Vespi was once again sent back to Norfolk. An injury during the game Saturday resulted in right-handed pitcher Cionel Perez being placed on the 15-day injured list on Sunday, March 31st, 2024, with an oblique strain. Right-handed pitcher Jonathan Heasley was recalled from Norfolk to cover while Perez recovered.
Reports began coming in on Sunday, March 31st, that both McKenna and Nick Maton have cleared waivers and are being optioned to the Norfolk Tides. Tyler Nevins did not clear waivers and was claimed by the Oakland Athletics. The Orioles on MASN X account announced that right-handed pitchers Kyle Braddish and Felix Bautista have traveled to Sarasota to continue their rehab and begin their ramp-up in the team’s complex before they rejoin the team in Baltimore. Left-handed pitcher John Means is set to make a rehab start for AAA Norfolk Tides on Sunday, March 31st, 2024.
