The Atlanta Braves tonight will continue their three-game series against the Colorado Rockies. They won last night to start the series 6-3. They’ve now won eight of their last ten games, averaging 5.7 runs per game while allowing 4.4 runs per game. Ahead of tonight’s game for Atlanta, they are recalling right-handed pitcher AJ Smith-Shawver from Triple-A Gwinnett. Smith-Shawver will get the start tonight as he faces German Marquez for Colorado. To make room on the roster for Smith-Shawver, the Braves are optioning Ian Anderson to Triple-A Gwinnett. Smith-Shawver is 0-2 this season with a 4.61 ERA, a 1.98 WHIP, and an 11.2 K/9 in three starts with the Braves. In Triple-A, he’s made two starts, going 0-1 with a 4.82 ERA, a 1.39 WHIP, and a 12.5 K/9. Anderson, despite being called up yesterday, didn’t pitch last night.

AJ Smith-Shawver

Smith-Shawver, last season, made one start with Atlanta, going 4.1 shutout innings; he allowed three hits. He walked two and struck out four. In the minors last season, he made 21 starts, going 3-8 with a 4.85 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP, and a 10.9 K/9.

Ian Anderson

Anderson spent his first three big league seasons with Atlanta. In 52 starts, he went 22-13 with a 3.97 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, and 262 strikeouts in 272.1 innings. He spent last season in the Braves’ minor league system across four levels. Anderson made 15 starts, going 3-2 with a 3.44 ERA, a 1.28 WHIP, and 67 strikeouts in 68 innings.
