
The Atlanta Braves wrap up their three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals today. The Braves won the opener 7-6 but lost last night 10-4. The Braves will have Bryce Elder on the mound today, facing off against Miles Mikolas. Ahead of today’s game, they selected the contract of reliever Jesse Chavez from Triple-A Gwinnett. They then transferred shortstop Nacho Alvarez Jr. from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list and optioned Nathan Wiles to Gwinnett. Chavez, in one appearance with the Braves this season, went two innings, giving up a run on two hits. He walked two and struck out one. In six games at Triple-A, he has a 1.42 ERA, a 0.63 WHIP, and 12 strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Alvarez suffered a wrist injury in spring training when he exited a game with pain in his wrist following a swing. Wiles, in one game, went an inning giving up three runs on four hits. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out one. In three starts at Gwinnett, he has a 0.64 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, and 15 strikeouts in 14 innings.

Jesse Chavez
Chavez is in his 18th big league season. In 654 career appearances, he is 51-65 with a 4.24 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, and 1037 strikeouts in 1136 innings. Last season, in 46 games with Atlanta, he was 2-2 with a 3.13 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP, and 55 strikeouts in 63.1 innings. He’s spent six seasons with Atlanta, going 12-9 with a 3.10 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and 221 strikeouts in 223.1 innings.
Nacho Alvarez
Alvarez is Atlanta’s fourth-ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline. In eight big league games last season, he hit .100 with a .256 OPS. He had a run scored. The Braves’ fifth-round pick in the 2022 MLB Draft has spent three seasons in the Braves system. In 258 games, he’s hit .284 with a .796 OPS. He has 42 doubles, four triples, 18 home runs, 134 RBI, 152 runs scored, 50 stolen bases, and 158 walks. Last season, between Double-A and Triple-A, he played in 112 games, hitting .284 with a .792 OPS. He had 15 doubles, two triples, ten home runs, 57 RBI, 65 runs scored, 26 stolen bases, and 66 walks.

Wiles’ last season in 35 appearances, with 11 of those coming as starts, he went 6-3 with a 5.54 ERA, a 1.48 WHIP, and 72 strikeouts in 87.2 innings.
