Esteury Ruiz – OF
The Athletics have optioned Esteury Ruiz to Triple-A. The speedy outfielder will start his year with the Las Vegas Aviators. Ruiz struggled this spring with a .121 batting average over 33 at-bats. He only played in 29 games for the Athletics last year with similar struggles at the plate. Ruiz had a .200 batting average and a slash line of .270/.382/.652 on the year. The speed is evident. Unfortunately, he has not reached base at the level he was in 2023. That year, he stole 67 bases. In 2023 he had a batting average of .254 and a slash line of .309/.345/.654. Hopefully, he can figure things out in Las Vegas, and return to the Athletics early this season. His speed is something this team could use to help manufacture runs this year.
Darell Hernaiz – 3B
The Athletics have optioned Hernaiz to Triple-A to start his year with the Las Vegas Aviators. This spring was a mixed bag for Hernaiz. In 36 at-bats he scored three runs and drove in seven, but only had a batting average of .194. Hernaiz played in 48 games last year for the Athletics. During that stint, he had a .192 batting average and a slash line of .261/.242/.503.
Grant Holman – RHP
The Athletics have optioned Holman to Triple-A where he will pitch for the Las Vegas Aviators to start the year. Holman pitched in six innings over six games this spring. He had one save, three strikeouts, and a 3.00 ERA. Last year he made 18 appearances for the Athletics with one win, one loss, and a 4.02 ERA to go with a 1.66 WHIP on the year.
Elvis Alvarado – RHP
The Athletics have optioned Alvarado to Las Vegas to pitch in Triple-A to start his season. This spring Elvis appeared in five games working 4.2 innings of work. He allowed a 3.86 ERA and had a 1.50 WHIP this spring. He recorded nine strikeouts over just over four innings. This performance is a sign of his ability to miss bats. It could come in handy this year for the Athletics bullpen. Last year in Triple-A in 50.2 innings of work he struck out 74 batters. If he continues these numbers in Triple-A, the Athletics bullpen might call him up. This could happen in the future.
J.T. Ginn – RHP
The Athletics have optioned Ginn to Triple-A where he will start his season pitching for the Las Vegas Aviators. Ginn ended his spring training with the big club working in five games over 13 innings of work. He won two games and lost one while recording a 7.62 ERA and a 1.85 WHIP. Ginn made eight appearances last year six of which were starts. He finished 2024 with one win one loss and a 4.24 ERA.
