Esteury Ruiz – OF

The Dodgers have acquired Ruiz from the Athletics. The Dodgers have assigned him to Triple-A Oklahoma City Comets. Ruiz had 55 at-bats last season for the Athletics with a .200 batting average, two home runs, eight RBI, five steals, and an OPS of .652 last year. After struggling this spring, Ruiz didn’t make the Athletics’ opening day roster. He had a .121 batting average with four hits in 33 at-bats, with one double and two steals.

Carlos Duran – RHP

The Athletics will receive Duran in return from the Dodgers. He appeared in 19 games last season across three minor league levels for the Dodgers. He lost six games last year, pitched 53.1 innings, with a 3.71 ERA. So far this year, with Oklahoma City in Triple-A, he has made one start. He pitched 4.1 innings he gave up three hits, one earned run, four walks, struck out eight, and had a 1.62 WHIP.

Summary

The Dodgers have started their season on a seven-game win streak. The Athletics have a 2-4 record to start the year. The Dodgers are the reigning World Series champs. If they can get Ruiz’s bat on track, they could have a sneaky speedster available come playoff time. The Athletics acquire another arm. They can toss it into their rotation if needed. They exchanged it for an asset they no longer find useful.
