Arizona Diamondbacks Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Diamondbacks are in the middle of their rubber game match against the Chicago Cubs. They head to San Fransico to play the division rivals. The Diamondbacks are off to a 9-9 record after 18 games and sitting middle of the pack in the NL West. Today, ahead of their game with the Cubs, they announced a handful of moves impacting their pitching staff.

LHP – Eduardo Rodriguez

Rodriguez was transferred from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list. with a left shoulder strain suffered back in spring training.

RHP – Luis Frias

Frias was optioned to the Triple-A team, the Reno Aces, today. He has pitched in seven games, recording one loss. He has pitched in 6.1 innings, allowing 11 hits, seven earned runs, one home run, four walks, and seven strikeouts. He has a 9.95 ERA and a 2.37 WHIP on the season with the Diamondbacks.

LHP – Logan Allen

The Diamondbacks selected Allen’s contract from the Reno Aces at Triple-A today. With Reno, he has pitched in three games, making two starts with one loss on the season. He has worked in 12 innings, allowing 11 hits, four earned runs, one home run, three walks, and nine strikeouts. He currently has a 3.00 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP in Triple-A.

The Diamondbacks optioned Henry to the Reno Aces. Henry has one loss in four starts for the Diamondbacks this year. He has pitched 18.1 innings, allowing 25 hits, 14 earned runs, three home runs, eight walks, and 18 strikeouts. He has a 6.87 ERA and a 1.80 WHIP this year.

RHP – Justin Martinez

Martinez was recalled from the Triple-A Reno Aces today. With Reno, he has pitched in six games. He has worked in 6.2 innings, allowing four hits, two earned runs, one home run, three walks, and 14 strikeouts. He has earned three saves in four opportunities. He also has a 2.70 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP this year.

Wrap up:

This is disappointing news concerning Rodriguez, as many fans, myself included, were excited to see how he would do in the desert this year as the team’s number three. Now, it appears we have to wait a few more months until we get to see how he will do. Fortunately, the Diamondbacks will soon welcome Jordan Montgomery to the rotation, softening the news about Eduardo’s injury. I want to see how they use him from the bullpen. He does have some closing experience in the minors, so it will be interesting to see how the Diamondbacks deploy him.
