A Detroit Tigers Prospect Named Player of the Week

The Detroit Tigers minor league affiliates last week combined to go 12-12 and were outscored by a combined 110-103. The Triple-A affiliate, the Toledo Mud Hens went 3-3 and were outscored 34-32. Double-A Erie also went 3-3 but they outscored their opponent 32-25. High-A West Michigan went 2-4 and were outscored 30-17. Finally, Single-A Lakeland were the only team to turn out a winning week going 4-2 and outscoring their opponent 22-21. The prospect who took home Hitter of the Week Honors was Jake Holton playing for the Erie Seawolves in the Eastern League, he played in all six games going 10-22 with four doubles, two home runs, six RBI, six runs scored, and two walks. This season he is hitting .293 with a .842 OPS; he has 14 doubles, five home runs, 35 RBI, 30 runs scored, 25 walks, and three stolen bases.

1B Jake Holton Career

Holton was drafted by the Tigers in the tenth round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Creighton University. In his lone season at Creighton in 2019 he played in 54 games hitting .387 with a 1.170 OPS; he had 15 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs, 58 RBI, 55 runs scored, one stolen base, and 32 walks. After being drafted he made his debut at Low-A Connecticut playing in 57 games he hit .222 with a .661 OPS; he had seven doubles, one home run, 17 RBI, 30 runs scored, one stolen base, and 40 walks. He didn’t play in 2020 due to the minor league season being canceled due to COVID. In 2021 he played at Single-A Lakeland and High-A West Michigan playing in 75 games combined hitting .280 with a .870 OPS; he had 16 doubles, four triples, eight home runs, 45 RBI, 40 runs scored, one stolen base, and 41 walks. In 2022 he played at High-A West Michigan and Double-A Erie playing in 116 games he hit .260 with a .810 OPS; he had 19 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs, 69 RBI, 70 runs scored, five stolen bases, and 72 walks. Last season he played at Erie playing in 111 games hitting .245 with a .779 OPS; he had 13 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs, 47 RBI, 60 runs scored, and 68 walks.
