The New York Yankees have acquired right-handed reliever Camilo Doval, completing the deal just minutes before the trade deadline. In return, the San Francisco Giants will receive four prospects: Jesus Rodriguez, Parks Harbor, Trystan Vrieling, and Carlos De La Rosa.

Doval continues to build a strong 2025 season. Over 46.2 innings, he owns a 3.09 ERA with 50 strikeouts and 15 saves. His ability to close games adds another late-inning option to a Yankees bullpen that has struggled under the weight of injuries and overuse.

Tripling Down on the Bullpen

Doval has put together a strong 2025 campaign, posting a 3.09 ERA and recording 50 strikeouts across 46.2 innings. He’s also converted 15 saves, serving as San Francisco’s closer for much of the season. His addition gives the Yankees another high-leverage option as they attempt to stabilize a bullpen that has faltered in recent weeks.

The 28-year-old marks the third bullpen addition this week as General Manager Brian Cashman reinforces one of the team’s most glaring weaknesses. Doval brings a mix of velocity and movement, anchored by a swing-and-miss cutter that should play well in the Bronx. While he has shown inconsistency at times, he thrives in high-leverage situations and earned All-Star honors in 2023, when he led the league with 39 saves.

More Control

Cashman has remained consistent in his approach, targeting pitchers with years of team control. Doval becomes arbitration eligible after this season but remains under club control through 2027. That flexibility allows the Yankees to stabilize their bullpen without committing to a short-term rental.

With this move, New York has rounded out a stretch of deadline activity focused on pitching depth. The front office has now addressed its most vulnerable unit and can turn its attention to climbing the AL East standings. If Doval performs to his potential, the Yankees may have found another reliable closer—and the missing piece in a playoff-caliber bullpen.
