Two Boston Red Sox Prospects Named Player of the Week

The Boston Red Sox minor league affiliates last week combined to go 10-14 and combined to be outscored 112-100. The Triple-A affiliate, the Worcester Red Sox, went 2-4, and both teams scored 30 runs between the six games. The Double-A affiliate, the Portland Sea Dogs, went 2-4 and were outscored by the Hartford Yard Goats 37-28. Finally, their A-level affiliates combined to go 6-6 both splitting their series and were outscored 45-42. Two prospects had great weeks which earned them Player of the Week honors. The first one was first baseman Blaze Jordan who won Hitter of the Week in the Eastern League for the Portland Sea Dogs, he played in all six games recording a hit in every game. He went 12-27 good for an average of .444, he had four doubles, two home runs, eight RBI, and five runs scored. This season through 17 games he is hitting .265 with a .748 OPS; he has six doubles, two home runs, 13 RBI, ten runs scored, and one walk. The other player is first baseman/third baseman Tyler Miller who is playing with the Red Sox High-A affiliate the Greenville Drive, he takes home Hitter of the Week for the South Atlantic League. Miller played in five games going 9-18 for a .500 average, he had a hit in every game as well; he had two doubles, one home run, five RBI, four runs scored, and one walk. This season in 16 games he is hitting .305 with a .841 OPS; he has five doubles, two home runs, seven RBI, 11 runs scored, and four walks.

Blaze Jordan Career

Jordan was drafted by the Red Sox in the third round of the 2020 MLB Amateur Draft out of the DeSoto Central High School in Southaven, Mississippi. In his first season in the system, he played for the Red Sox rookie ball team and Single-A Salem, he combined to play in 28 games, and he hit .324 with a .959 OPS; he had eight doubles, a triple, six home runs, 26 RBI, 19 runs scored, one stolen base, and eight walks. In 2022, he played in Single-A Salem and High-A Greenville, playing in 120 games, hitting .289 with a .808 OPS; he had 30 doubles, three triples, 12 home runs, 68 RBI, 60 runs scored, five stolen bases, and 48 walks. In 2023 he played for High-A Greenville and Double-A Portland, he played in 122 games hitting .296 with a .832 OPS; he had 32 doubles, one triple, 18 home runs, 86 RBI, 67 runs scored, two stolen bases, and 40 walks.

Tyler Miller Career

Miller was drafted by the Pirates in the 23rd round of the 2018 MLB Amateur Draft out of Spanish Fort High School in Spanish Fort, Alabama; he ended up not signing and attended East Mississippi Community College before heading to Auburn University. He would then be drafted by the Red Sox in the ninth round of the 2021 MLB Amateur Draft. In his first season in 2021, he played for the Red Sox rookie league team and Single-A Salem, he played in 27 games hitting .327 with a .934 OPS; he had seven doubles, two triples, three home runs, 20 RBI, 18 runs scored, three stolen bases, and 11 walks. In 2022 he played at Single-A Salem, in 114 games he hit .219 with a .623 OPS; he had ten doubles, one triple, 13 home runs, 59 RBI, 61 runs scored, 22 stolen bases, and 37 walks. Last season, he played at High-A Greenville, he played in 91 games hitting .263 with a .737 OPS; he had 21 doubles, three triples, nine home runs, 51 RBI, 50 runs scored, 19 stolen bases, and 25 walks.
