3 Shortstop options for the Marlins

The Miami Marlins have reportedly been looking at adding a shortstop, which is an interesting move with Jazz Chisholm Jr. Still, they view him as an outfielder permanently, so could they sign a shortstop or do like they did last year and trade one of their arms for a shortstop in a one for one trade? So, who are three options they could look at adding?

Miami Marlins Three Shortstop Options

Tim Anderson

The White Sox drafted Anderson with the 17th overall pick in 2013. He would make his big-league debut on June 10, 2016, where he went 2-3 with a double and run scored. He is a two-time All-Star, won a Silver Slugger, and also a batting title, which he won in 2019. During his White Sox tenure, he played in 895 games and slashed .282/.312/.422 with a .735 OPS; he has 179 doubles, 18 triples, 98 home runs, 338 RBI, 528 runs, 117 stolen bases, and 26 walks. He struggled in 2023, slashing .245/.286/.296 with a .582 OPS; he had 18 doubles, two triples, one home run, 25 RBI, 52 runs, 13 stolen bases, and 26 walks. Anderson could benefit from a change of scenery, so why not Miami?

Brandon Crawford

Crawford was drafted in the fourth round of the 2008 draft by the San Francisco Giants, where he spent all 13 years of his career and won two World Series titles. He debuted on May 27, 2011, going 1-3 with a home run, four RBI, a run scored and a walk. He is a three-time All-Star, a four-time Gold Glove winner, and a Silver Slugger winner. He has played in 1,654 games, slashing .250/.319/.396 with a .715 OPS; he has 290 doubles, 44 triples, 146 home runs, 744 RBI, 669 runs, 47 stolen bases, and 536 walks. In 2023, he played in 93 games and slashed .194/.273/.314 with a .587 OPS; he had 11 doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 31 runs, three stolen bases, and 28 walks. It was Crawford’s worst season, and like Anderson, he may benefit from a change of scenery. With his experience, he could lead the clubhouse for this Marlins team.

Willy Adames

Adames has been rumored to be available for trade by the Brewers, but what it would take to make a deal get done to acquire him remains to be seen. Adames started his career with the Detroit Tigers but debuted with the Tampa Bay Rays when he was traded in 2014 as part of a three-team deal. He spent the first four years of his career in Tampa Bay slashing .254/.320/.420 with a .740 OPS; he hit 53 doubles, three triples, 43 home runs, 124 RBI, 157 runs scored, 13 stolen bases, and 107 walks. He was traded in 2021 to the Brewers, where he spent the past three seasons slashing .242/.319/.454 with a .774 OPS; he had 86 doubles, two triples, 75 home runs, 236 RBI, 217 runs, 17 stolen bases, and 167 walks. In his career, he has slashed .247/.320.439 with a .759 OPS; he has 139 doubles, five triples, 118 home runs, 360 RBI, 374 runs, 30 stolen bases, and 274 walks. In 2023, he slashed .217/.310/.407 with a .717 OPS; he had 29 doubles, two triples, 24 home runs, 80 RBI, 73 runs, five stolen bases, and 71 walks.

Wrap Up:

A few other decent options are available with names like Amed Rosario, Adalberto Mondesi, Elvis Andrus, and Didi Gregorius. Still, the three listed above make the most sense for the Marlins to go after. They could also shift Jazz Chisholm to shortstop and sign or trade for an outfielder with names like Cody Bellinger, Joc Pederson, or Michael A. Taylor. It’ll be interesting to see which way the Miami team decides to go.
