
The St. Louis Cardinals kick off a four-game series with the Cincinnati Reds tonight. Before tonight’s game, the Cardinals announced three roster moves. They have added Jose Barrero to the 40-man roster as he’s been selected from Memphis. A right-hand pitcher has been designated for assignment to make room for Barrero on the 40-man roster. With Barrero joining the big league club, the Cardinals had to option a player to Triple-A. This had to be done before the game this evening.

Jose Barrero
The Cardinals have selected the contract of Infield/outfielder Jose Barrero ahead of this evening’s game. Barrero last played in the big leagues for Cincinnati back in 2023. He played in 46 games for the Reds. Barrero scored 15 runs, had 29 hits, eight doubles, two home runs, 17 RBI, and three steals. He finished the year with a .218 average and a .618 OPS for the Reds. This year in Triple-A he has a .299 batting average with a .913 OPS.
Thomas Saggese
The Cardinals have optioned infielder Thomas Saggese to Triple-A where he will continue his season with Memphis. He saw 14 games worth of action during this call-up. He heads back to Memphis with a .341 batting average and a .876 OPS. Saggese has one home run and seven RBI so far for the Cardinals this year.
Ryan Loutos
The Cardinals have designated Ryan Loutos for assignment ahead of today’s series opener with the Reds. He has yet to pitch for the Cardinals this year but appeared in three games last year for St. Louis. Loutos allowed two hits, one walk and gave up zero runs in 2.1 innings of work in 2024.
