Spencer Strider Dazzles in Rehab Outing

Spencer Strider Dazzles in Rehab Outing

The Atlanta Braves have gotten off to a rough start. They enter tonight’s game currently 2-9. The starting pitching is 1-4 with a 4.23 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP, and 56 strikeouts combined in 55.1 innings. Reinforcements may be on the way as Spencer Strider made a debut start today at Triple-A Gwinnett. He started the game striking out the first six batters he faced. In the third inning, he allowed a double before striking out the next three batters. In the fourth inning, he recorded two outs on a lineout before allowing a walk, but he ended the inning with another strikeout. Strider recorded two more strikeouts in the bottom of the fifth, but also allowed a run. He faced one more batter, and he would strike out that one as well.

He ended his day going 5.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits; he walked two and struck out 13. Of his 16 outs, 13 of them were recorded via strikeout. He threw 90 pitches, with 62 of them going for strikes. Not a bad rehab assignment, and he looks like he’s ready to return for the Braves. If he does, he would likely line up to pitch at some point in the series in Toronto unless they want him to make another rehab start. This was his third start with Gwinnett. In his first two, he went 8.1 innings, giving up one run on two hits; he walked three and struck out 14. Through three starts now, he is 1-0 with a 1.32 ERA, a 0.73 WHIP, and 27 strikeouts in 13.2 innings.
