Probable Starting Pitchers
Game 1: JP Sears (1-1, 3.46 ERA) vs. Griffin Canning (0-1, 2.79 ERA)
Sears heads into this start with a total of 13.0 IP in a pair of starts, and he’s looking to go deeper still and help the A’s set the tone for the series. Toeing the rubber for the visiting team, Canning will be locked in on both lowering his already strong sub-three ERA and increasing his equally strong K/9 that sits above a strikeout an inning average.
Game 2: Joey Estes (0-2, 15.43 ERA) vs. David Peterson (1-1, 2.53 ERA)
Estes will be trying to rectify his absurdly high ERA. However, it’s only been two starts. He’s totaled only 7.0 IP. A strong start on Saturday would drastically lower his ERA. It would get him back on track for the rest of the season. On the flip side of things, Peterson, much like Canning before him, continues his search. He wants to lower his ERA. He also aims to strike out more batters than his impressive total so far.
Game 3: Luis Severino (0-2, 4.74 ERA) vs Kodai Senga (1-1, 1.80 ERA)
Despite Severino’s inflated-looking ERA, the 31-year-old is enjoying a fairly strong start to his season. His ten earned runs aren’t great. However, the veteran is tossing an average of more than six innings per game. This context shines a better light on his early-season numbers. On the other side of the field, Senga is on a Cy Young pace, and the owner of the Ghost Fork is out to add to his so far impressive totals.
Players to watch
New York Mets
Don’t let his contract struggle distract you, it sure hasn’t distracted Pete Alonso. The Polar Bear is posting a 1.118 OPS while also mashing home runs at an impressive clip, smashing one out in every 14 at-bats.
Athletics
Keeping with first basemen, the A’s Tyler Soderstrom is obliterating the baseball thus far, the 23-year-old lefty carrying in a 1.197 OPS. With twice as many home runs as Alonso on the other side, Soderstrom produces as much loud contact as anyone, and until he cools off, he’ll keep opening eyes.
