The Seattle Mariners are recalling one of their top hitting prospects in Tacoma Rainiers First Baseman Tyler Locklear. The Mariners will place first baseman/outfielder on the injured list with a back injury. Locklear had left the Rainiers game early on Tuesday, and it was reported that he was en route to Sacramento. After the game, manager Dan Wilson told reporters what the corresponding move would be.

Tyler Locklear
Locklear has been one of the hottest hitters in Triple-A over the past two months. Even more so, in July, as he has torn the cover off the ball. The 24-year-old is slashing .425/.495/.825 with a whopping 1.320 OPS, nine home runs, and 33 RBI in 20 games in July. He leads the PCL in those categories for the month and just earned player of the week honors. For the season, Locklear is hitting .316 with a .944 OPS, 25 doubles, 19 home runs, 81 RBI, 18 stolen bases, 47 walks, and 94 strikeouts in 97 games.
Locklear spent some time with the Major League Club in 2024, but he struggled to produce. In 16 games, he hit .154 with a .536 OPS. He also had a double, two home runs, three RBI, and three runs. With the call-up up Locklear will likely split time between first base when recently acquired Josh Naylor needs a breather or at DH.
Luke Raley
The 30-year-old Raley has not played since the night that the Mariners acquired Naylor. Now, we know why, as he has been dealing with some back issues. This will be his second trip to the Injured List this season, as he was on it earlier for an Oblique Strain. Raley has not been as productive for the Mariners this season as he was in 2024. In 49 games this season, he’s hitting .220 with a .691 OPS. He also has six doubles, four home runs, and 18 RBI.
