The Seattle Mariners will start a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays tonight at home. Luis Castillo takes the ball for Seattle, and Kevin Gausman starts for Toronto. The Mariners are coming off a series win over the Athletics. Seattle is 8-2 in their last ten games, averaging 5.1 runs per game while allowing 2.2 runs per game. Ahead of tonight’s game, the Mariners placed right-handed pitcher Trent Thornton on the 15-day injured list retroactive to May 6, 2025, with Appendicitis. To replace Thornton, the Mariners are recalling right-handed pitcher Troy Taylor from Triple-A Tacoma.

Thornton, in 16 games this season, is 1-0 with a 5.87 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, and a 6.5 K/9. Taylor has appeared in four games for Seattle this season, posting a 12.00 ERA, a 2.00 WHIP, and a 6.0 K/9. He has pitched in nine Triple-A games. Taylor is 0-2 with a 7.36 ERA, a 1.77 WHIP, and 13.5 K/9.

Trent Thornton

Thornton has appeared in 218 career games, with 36 of those coming as starts. He is 13-19 with a 4.40 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP, and an 8.6 K/9. Over three seasons with Seattle, he has pitched in 110 games with one start, posting a 6-5 record with a 3.56 ERA, a 1.14 WHIP, and 8.6 K/9.

Troy Taylor

Taylor appeared in 21 games for Seattle last season, posting a 3.72 ERA, a 1.14 WHIP, and an 11.6 K/9. In three seasons in the Mariners system, he’s made 89 appearances, going 4-7 with a 2.74 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP, and an 11.1 K/9.
