The Seattle Mariners will start a four-game series against the Houston Astros tonight. They are coming off a 6-5 win over the Chicago White Sox. The Mariners have won six of their last eight games. They averaged 3.8 runs per game while allowing 1.8 runs per game. Tonight, their starting rotation as right-handed pitcher George Kirby returns to make his 2025 debut. Kirby in three rehab starts posts a 7.20 ERA, a 1.70 WHIP, and 13 strikeouts in ten innings. To make room for Kirby, the Mariners are optioning right-handed pitcher Troy Taylor to Triple-A Tacoma. In eight games with the Mariners, he posted a 12.15 ERA, a 2.55 WHIP, and two strikeouts in 6.2 innings.

George Kirby

Last season, Kirby made 33 starts, going 14-11. He had a 3.53 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, and 179 strikeouts in 191 innings. In 89 career starts, he is 35-26 with a 3.43 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, and 484 strikeouts in 511.2 innings. He finished sixth in Rookie of the Year voting in 2022. Kirby was an All-Star last season. He also finished eighth in Cy Young voting.

Troy Taylor

Taylor, in nine games at Tacoma this season, is 0-2. He posts a 7.36 ERA, a 1.77 WHIP, and 11 strikeouts in 7.1 innings. In 89 career minor league games, he went 4-7. He posts a 2.74 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP, and 118 strikeouts in 95.1 innings. In 29 career big league games, he posts a 5.88 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP, and 27 strikeouts in 26 innings.
