Seattle Mariners Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Seattle Mariners are set to open the season on Thursday at home against the Athletics. They will do so with Logan Gilbert on the mound. The other day they announced they released Mitch Haniger which allowed them to make the move they did today which is selecting the contract of first baseman Rowdy Tellez from Triple-A Tacoma. They also announced they extended their Gold Glove catcher Cal Raleigh. Raleigh’s extension is for six-years and for $105 million.

Rowdy Tellez

Tellez this spring in 16 games his .298 with a .894 OPS. He had four doubles, three home runs, five RBI, and nine runs scored. In 131 games last season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, he hit .243 with a .691 OPS. Tellez had 18 doubles, 13 home runs, 56 RBI, and 38 runs scored. He is a career .234 hitter with a .739 OPS. Tellez had 97 doubles, three triples, 105 home runs, 319 RBI, and 244 runs scored.

Cal Raleigh

Raleigh, in his first four seasons with the Mariners, has played in 464 games. He’s a .218 hitter with a .740 OPS. Raleigh has 71 doubles, two triples, 93 home runs, 251 RBI, and 203 runs scored. Last season in 153 games, he hit .220 with a .748 OPS. Raleigh had 16 doubles, 34 home runs, 100 RBI, and 73 runs scored. That was career highs in home runs and RBI. He finished 12th in MVP voting last season as well. A key switch-hitting bat is sticking around. He also, in 135 games, had a .995 fielding percentage with 51 assists and 1,138 putouts, which led to his Gold Glove.
