The Mariners faced a disappointing 2024. They entered the off-season with tight payroll restrictions. Ownership set these restrictions for the second year in a row. For most of the off-season, Jerry Dipoto was rather quiet as well. No significant trades were made.

Although, they were linked to several players this offseason. The Mariners did not make any significant upgrades to their lineup at the major league level. The most positive news that the fan base received was that the Mariners got the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 first-year player draft.
Who gets the spotlight?
Instead of building upon their young core of talented players and adding veterans to help them win. The Mariners will lean on their young core. They need a couple of bounce-back seasons from players like Polanco, Mitch Garver, and J.P. Crawford. Though, the spotlight will be on the starting rotation, Julio Rodriguez and Cal Raleigh.
– Starting Rotation: Can you name a better one? The Mariners have a strong starting rotation. This includes talented players like George Kirby, Logan Gilbert, Luis Castillo, Bryce Miller, and Bryan Woo. They ranked near the top of every statistical category on the pitching side. Some of those guys will improve and Castillo will look to stay healthy. If the Mariners’ rotation performs like last year, they will keep the team competitive in most games.
– Julio Rodriguez: The Mariners front office will seek more from Julio Rodriguez. He is now entering his fourth season in the big leagues. Will he improve under the direction of Edgar Martinez and Kevin Seitzer?
2025 Roster
2025 Lineup
RF – Victor Robles
CF – Julio Rodriguez
C – Cal Raleigh
LF – Randy Arozarena
3B – Jorge Polanco
1B – Luke Raley
DH – Mitch Garver
SS – J.P. Crawford
2B – Donovan Solano
The Mariners did not make any improvements to their lineup and will instead run it back with a similar one. The major difference between the 2024 and 2025 campaigns will be the hitting strategy. They will rely on some of these players having bounce-back seasons and others to stay consistent with what they did last season.
2025 Bench
INF/OF Dylan Moore
INF Ryan Bliss
OF Mitch Haniger
1B Rowdy Tellez
Though there are not really any big names on the bench, there are some valuable names who could make a difference. Tellez has been impressive in the spring and has likely earned himself a spot on the 26-man roster. Moore could start but is more valuable coming off the bench.

2025 Rotation
Logan Gilbert
Luis Castillo
George Kirby
Bryce Miller
Bryan Woo
For a second season, the Mariners will rely on a strong rotation to keep them in games. A season ago, this was the best rotation in baseball. Heading into the 2025 season all five pitchers were listed in the top 25 Cy Young candidates. A season ago, they led the MLB in ERA (3.38), innings pitched (942.2), quality starts (92), opponent batting average (.211), WHIP (1.03), strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.88), fewest walks-per-9 innings (1.77), fewest hits-per-9 innings (7.53), opponent on-base percentage (.266) and opponent OPS (.644). Dipoto refused to weaken the rotation by trading away one of the arms this offseason.
2025 Bullpen
Andres Munoz
Collin Snider
Gregory Santos
Matt Brash*
Trent Thornton
Taylor Saucedo
Gabe Speier
Troy Taylor
The Mariners await the return of Matt Brash, but when healthy this could be one of the best bullpens in all of baseball. They also lost Jackson Kowar to injury last season, he won’t be back until mid-season at the earliest. Led by Andres Munoz who dealt with an injury of his own last season, the bullpen threw some valuable innings.
2025 Expectations
If all goes well, the Mariners will be in contention for a playoff spot. The Mariners have a loaded farm system and will likely see some of their position player prospects reach or get closer to the big leagues. The Mariners will need Rodriguez, Garver, Crawford, and others to step up if they want to make the playoffs. If they get the higher production levels that they need, they could run away with the division. If not, they’ll be back in contention for the Wild Card and likely could miss the playoffs for the third straight season.
