The Cincinnati Reds lost 8-1 today against the Texas Rangers in Cactus League play. The team is gearing up for Opening Day on March 28th when they host the Washington Nationals. While the big league club roster continues to take shape. The Reds did take another hit today when another top prospect found out he will miss time this season. Noelvi Matte was suspended earlier this spring training for 80 games due to a banned substance. Today the injury bug hit a top prospect costing him the season.
SS – Edwin Arroyo
Arroyo a top prospect for the Reds suffered a torn labrum and will have season-ending surgery. Arroyo played for the Reds early this spring in Cactus League play getting 17 at-bats, had a .353 average, three RBIs, one stolen base, and a .921 OPS while with the Reds this spring. Arroyo shined this spring before being optioned back to the minors camp. ITD has Arroyo ranked as its 65th overall prospect in the top 100. Last year Arroyo split the year between High A Dayton Dragons in the Midwest League and Double AA Chattanooga Lookouts in the Southern League. With Dayton in High A, he played in 119 games, had 72 runs scored, 26 doubles, 10 triples, 13 home runs, 55 RBIs, 28 stolen bases, and slashed .248/.321/.427 at Dayton. With Chattanooga, he played in four games, had two doubles, one triple, five RBIs, one steal, and slashed .353/.400/.588 in limited time.
