The Boston Red Sox are continuously linked to every starting pitcher as they look to address their starting pitching needs. The other day, it was rumored they were looking to add a pitcher in the trade market. Still, today, a report came out that the Red Sox, among a few other teams, are interested in former New York Yankees RHP Domingo German, who missed the second half of the season due to his alcohol-related issues.
Domingo German By The Numbers
German just wrapped up his sixth season with the Yankees and posted a 5-7 record in 20 appearances with a 4.56 ERA, a 4.6 FIP, a 1.07 WHIP, a 1.7 HR/9, a 2.8 BB/9, and a 9.4 K/9; he also had a no-hitter on May 16th against the Toronto Blue Jays. German’s best season came in 2019 when he made 27 appearances and went 18-4 with a 4.03 ERA, a 4.72 FIP, a 1.14 WHIP, a 1,9 HR/9, a 2.5 BB/9, and a 9.6 K/9. In his career with the Yankees, he made 112 appearances, going 31-28 with a 4.41 ERA, a 4.50 FIP, a 1.17 WHIP, a 1.6 HR/9, a 2.8 BB/9, and a 9.4 K/9. He’s appeared in one postseason game, pitching an inning, and didn’t allow a run or a hit but did walk two and struck out one.
Wrap Up
I am not a fan of this idea; there are many better options available especially with many names still out there. The Winter Meetings have begun, and it could be an active week for teams with many teams looking to acquire pitching. It could make things interesting.
If he is sober, he could be a nice addition to the staff. Breslow would still need to get an ace via a trade or free agency. My preferences in order are: Corburn Burns, Yamamoto, Cease, Snell, Bieber, Montgomery, Giolitto.
