Rhett Lowder was born in Albemarle, North Carolina, on March 8, 2002. He played high school baseball at North Stanly High School in New London, NC. He was the sixth-ranked RHP and the 12th-ranked overall player in North Carolina. At North Stanly he made 28 appearances going 21-2 with a 0.91 ERA, he had 13 complete games, six shutouts, two saves, two no-hitters, and 247 strikeouts. Lowder was ranked the 167th RHP in the country and the 491st overall player. He committed to play college baseball at Wake Forest University.

Where Did Rhett Lowder Go to College?

Lowder started in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League where he made five appearances, three of which were starts going 1-1 with a 3.26 ERA and 20 strikeouts and 19.1 innings. In his first season at Wake Forest, he made 14 appearances with 12 starts going 4-2 with a 6.12 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 67.2 innings. That summer he played in the Valley League for Strasburg making four starts going 2-0 with a 2.37 ERA and 27 strikeouts and 19 innings. In his second season at Wake Forest, he made 16 starts going 11-3 with a 3.08 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 99.1 innings. In his final season in College, he went 15-0 in 19 starts with a 1.87 ERA and 143 strikeouts in 120.1 innings.

When Was Rhett Lowder Drafted?

Lowder was ranked the sixth overall prospect entering the 2023 draft and the fourth overall college prospect. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds with the seventh overall pick.
