Jacob Wilson was born in Los Angeles, California, on March 30, 2002. He played high school baseball at Thousand Oaks High School in Thousand Oaks, CA. He was the 19th-ranked shortstop and the 88th overall player in California in 2020. In high school he played in 65 games and hit .290 with a .378 OBP, he had 11 doubles, one triple, one home run, 30 RBI, and 25 runs scored. On the mound, he made seven appearances going 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA, two saves and eight strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Miller was the 130th shortstop nationally and ranked in the top 500 overall players. He committed to play college baseball at Grand Canyon University.

In his final season at Grand Canyon, he played in 49 games and slashed .412/.461/.635 with a 1.096 OPS; he had 17 doubles, four triples, six home runs, 61 RBI, 41 runs scored, eight stolen bases, and 19 walks.
