Jacob Wilson was born in Los Angeles, California, on March 30, 2002. He played high school baseball at Thousand Oaks High School in Thousand Oaks, CA. He was the 19th-ranked shortstop and the 88th overall player in California in 2020. In high school, he played in 65 games and hit .290 with a .378 OBP. He had 11 doubles, one triple, one home run, 30 RBI, and 25 runs scored. On the mound, he made seven appearances, going 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA, two saves, and eight strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Miller was the 130th shortstop nationally and ranked in the top 500 overall players. He committed to play college baseball at Grand Canyon University.

In the summer, he played for Mankato in the Northwoods League, in 27 games, and he slashed .302/.365/.417 with a .781 OPS; he had five doubles, two home runs, 15 RBI, 11 runs scored, and nine walks. Wilson, in his second season, played in 59 games and slashed .358/.418/.585 with a 1.004 OPS; he had 18 doubles, one triple, 12 home runs, 65 RBI, 44 runs scored, and 25 walks.

In the summer, he played for Orleans in the Cape Cod Baseball League, and in ten games, he slashed .278/.381/.389 with a .770 OPS; he had one double, one home run, four RBI, four runs scored, and six walks. In his final season at Grand Canyon, he played in 49 games and slashed .412/.461/.635 with a 1.096 OPS; he had 17 doubles, four triples, six home runs, 61 RBI, 41 runs scored, eight stolen bases, and 19 walks.

Wilson was ranked the tenth overall prospect in the 2023 draft, and he was the seventh-ranked college prospect. He was drafted by the Oakland A’s with the sixth overall pick.

2023

Wilson played for the A’s rookie league team and High-A Lansing. He played in 26 games and slashed .333/.391/.475 with a .866 OPS; he had 11 doubles, one home run, 13 RBI, 17 runs scored, four stolen bases, and six walks.   

2024

Wilson ranked as the 76th overall prospect by Baseball America and the 68th by MLB Pipeline. He spent 2024 in rookie ball, Double-A Midland, and Triple-A Las Vegas, as well as making his debut in Oakland. In five games at rookie ball, he hit .571 with a 1.504 OPS. Wilson had four doubles, three RBI, and four runs scored. He played in 22 games in Double-A, hitting .455 with a 1.178 OPS. Wilson had 13 doubles, three home runs, 19 RBI, and 18 runs scored. In 26 games at Triple-A, he hit .396 with a 1.062 OPS. He had 11 doubles, four home runs, 17 RBI, and 26 runs scored. Wilson played in 28 games with the A’s, hitting .250 with a .629 OPS. He had two doubles, two triples, three RBI, and 11 runs scored.
