Picks of the Day, 5/24

I’m starting to hate baseball and I’m grateful I no longer live near Boston or I’d be standing on the Tobin right now, staring down and longing for the sweet release of the Mystic below.
1-2 yesterday. I took the Sox moneyline because Bello has been excellent, and the Boston lineup has been a top 4 offense this year. Even though they had only scored 1 run in the previous two games, common sense would dictate that they would score a few last night…nope. 4-0 Angels. At least Bello was great again. I also took the Braves -1.5 because it was Strider against a kid making his debut who’s minor league numbers are not impressive. And of course Strider stunk, despite 11 Ks, and the Braves bullpen continues to be a huge problem. The Miller kid was very impressive going 5 innings and allowing 1 run in his MLB debut.
At least I hit on the Rangers run line. Nate Eovaldi pitched a complete game allowing only one run on 6 hits, and the Texas lineup beat up the corpse of Rich Hill.

73-70 on the season. A few early games today:
Pick #1
Mets @ Cubs, Total Runs Over 6.5, -120
Its Senga vs. Stroman. Two good but not spectacular pitchers. The line is as low as it gets in MLB in 2023. There has only been a handful of games with lines under 7 all year. I don’t care who is pitching, I’m taking the Over every time.
Pick #2
Shane McClanahan to record a win, +140
He faces the Blue Jays and Kikuchi, but it doesn’t really matter. McClanahan would win the Cy Young if the season ended today. His strikeout line is only 5.5, so the over is a no-brainer, but the payout is -155, which stinks.
Pick #3
A’s @ Mariners, Mariners -1.5 Run line, -140
I don’t love the payout, but I need a win. As one of my readers pointed out yesterday, the A’s have lost over 30 games by more than 1.5 runs. Bryce Miller makes his 5th start for the M’s, the first 4 were all Quality Starts.
