New York Mets Roster Moves 5/31

New York Mets Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Mets enter play today with a 23-33 record 15.5 games behind the division-leading Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets lost game one of the four-game weekend series with the Arizona Diamondbacks last night. The team made several moves today ahead of game two of the weekend series including a trade!

C – Omar Narvaez

The Mets have designated Narvaez for assignment. Narvaez has played in 28 games for the Mets this year with 65 at-bats. He scored four runs, ten hits, two doubles, five RBIs, three walks, and 12 strikeouts. This year, he has slashed .154/.191/.185 with a .376 OPS. The Mets have designated Narvaez for assignment. C – Luis Torrens

The Mets have activated Torrens today ahead of their weekend series after a Trade with the New York Yankees for Cash. Torrens has played for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRaiders this year in the International League in Triple-A. He has played in 30 games with 111 at-bats. He has scored 17 runs, 31 hits, six doubles, five home runs, 19 RBIs, ten walks, 29 strikeouts, and one steal. He slashed .279/.339/.468 this year in Triple-A with a .807 OPS.

RHP – Christian Scott

The Mets have optioned Scott back to Triple-A to pitch for the Syracuse Mets. He has made five starts for the Mets this year without a win, taking two losses over 27.2 innings pitched. He has a 3.90 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. He allowed 24 hits, 12 earned runs, three home runs, seven free passes, and 25 strikeouts.

3B – Bret Baty

The Mets have optioned Baty to Triple-A, where he will play for the Syracuse Mets. Baty has played in 49 games so far this year with 151 at-bats. He has scored 15 runs, 34 hits, three doubles, four home runs, 16 RBIs, 16 walks, and 42 Strikeouts. This year, he has slashed .225/.304/.325 with a .629 OPS.

SS – Jose Iglesias

The Mets have selected the contract from the Syracuse Mets in Triple-A. The veteran played 42 games this year in Triple-A and had 165 at-bats. He has scored 26 runs, 45 hits, seven doubles, seven home runs, 29 RBIs, nine walks, 29 strikeouts, and one steal. He has slashed .273/.309/.442 this year with a .751 OPS.

RHP – Dediel Nunez

The Mets have recalled Nunez after sending him down two days ago from Triple-A Syracuse Mets. Nunez has pitched in five games so far this year for the Mets. He has yet to factor in a decision but has a 3.24 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. He has worked 8.1 innings, allowing seven hits, three earned runs, one home run, three walks, and 13 strikeouts.

Wrap Up:

The Mets have been a hot mess all season, and today, they have made several moves, along with a trade with the New York Yankees for another backstop. Given his start this year, Baty being sent down is not a surprise. Hopefully, he can find his swing in Triple-A and return to the big club. Christian Scott will be a good one. The team opted to send him back down to Triple-A, and I expect to see him again soon. I was shocked by the team selecting the contract of the defensive shortstop Iglesias, to be honest, but at this point, why not be 15.5 games back in the National League East?
