Multiple National League West Teams Among Those Interested in Tigers Starters as Hot Stove Heats Up

ERod

With 4½ hours remaining (as of me writing this) until the MLB Trade Deadline, things are starting to heat up fast. Brad Hand, Rich Hill, and Ji-Man Choi are some notable names already on the move. The Blue Jays have acquired SS Paul DeJong, and teams are also showing interest in OF Teoscar Hernandez.

Although the Tigers have yet to make a move, it’s only a matter of time before either Eduardo Rodriguez and Michael Lorenzen are sent packing. Multiple teams have shown interest today in two Tigers starters. In the NL West, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres were intrigued by Eduardo Rodriguez. The Dodgers were reportedly “in hot pursuit” of E-Rod. LA remains in the hunt for Mets starter Justin Verlander as well. San Diego is now unlikely to acquire Rodriguez, as they made the trade for LHP Rich Hill just a little while ago. The Baltimore Orioles have shown interest in both Rodriguez and Michael Lorenzen. If they can’t get Verlander, it seems like going after one of Detroit’s starters will be an easy decision for Baltimore. Another NL West team, the Arizona Diamondbacks, is reportedly discussing Lorenzen with the Tigers. The Atlanta Braves got bullpen help with Brad Hand but are still pursuing a starter. That’s another team that Detroit could strike a deal with. So far, these are the teams we know are interested in Rodriguez and Lorenzen. Scott Harris is taking the approach of taking all the time he needs to get the right deal for his team.
