Minnesota Twins Roster Moves 7/9

Twins Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

Tonight’s game against the Chicago White Sox has been postponed. The Twins are 52-39 at this point a week before the All-Star game. They are five games behind the American League Central leading Cleveland Guardiansand are holding on to a wild card spot as of today. They beat the White Sox last night and will play the San Fransico Giants in San Fransico before the short break. Today before the game was postponed the Twins announced a couple of roster moves.

RHP – Brock Stewart

Stewart has been sent out for a rehab assignment in Triple-A to pitch for the Saint Paul Saints. He pitched in 13 games for the Twins before going on the injured list with right shoulder tendinitis. In those games, he pitched 13.1 innings earning seven holds without recording a win or a loss. He has a 0.68 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP when healthy for the Twins.

RHP – Zack Weiss

The Twins have sent Weiss on a rehab assignment to Triple-A to pitch for the Saint Paul Saints. Weiss has yet to pitch for the Twins this season and is coming off the 60-day injured list with a right shoulder strain. He’s pitched in three games in the minors this year without factoring in a decision but has two holds and an ERA of 0.00.

Overview

As the all-star break creeps closer the Twins continue to stay hot and gain ground weekly on the Cleveland Guardians. They currently have the fourth-best record in the American League and a better record currently than any American League West division team. As they hold on to the top wild-card spot, the real question is can they catch the Guardians, or is the wild card their ticket to the playoffs? Brock Stewart showed he was a valuable arm in the bullpen. He can give the Twins another solid middle to late-inning arm to help bridge the gap from the starting rotation and get to Johan Duran the team’s young closer. Weiss is a name to pay attention to as he begins his Triple-A assignment he could become another bullpen option as the month of July carries on and perhaps we see him called up in August to provide another option in the middle innings for this team as they continue to push for the playoffs.
