Kansas City Royals Roster Transactions | Inside The Diamonds

The Kansas City Royals play the middle game of their three-game series with the Seattle Mariners tonight. The Royals dropped the opener 12-5 and fell to 5-9 in September, averaging 3.8 runs per game while allowing 4.9 runs per game. Ahead of tonight’s game, the Royals activated left-handed pitcher Cole Ragans from the 60-day injured list, and he will make the start tonight against Seattle. To make room on the roster for Ragans, the Royals optioned right-handed pitcher Luinder Avila to Triple-A Omaha.

Cole Ragans

Ragans in ten starts this season went 2-3 with a 5.18 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, and had 76 strikeouts in 48.2 innings. During his rehab, he pitched at Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha. He combined to make three starts, going 0-1 with a 4.35 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP, and 20 strikeouts in 10.1 innings.

Luinder Avila

Avila has appeared in eight games for Kansas City, going 1-0. He posted a 0.96 ERA, a 0.86 WHIP, and 11 strikeouts in 9.1 innings. He’s also pitched at High-A Quad Cities and Triple-A Omaha, making 17 appearances with 12 of those coming as starts. Avila went 2-3 with a 5.01 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP, and 71 strikeouts in 59.1 innings.
