Golden Spikes Finalists Announced

This weekend the College Baseball tournament will host its Super Regional weekend with eight teams advancing to the College World Series. Today the final three players for the Golden Spikes were announced and they are first baseman/outfielder Charlie Condon from the University of Georgia, second baseman/ outfielder Travis Bazzana from Oregon State University, and LHP Hagen Smith from the University of Arkansas.

Golden Spikes Finalists By The Numbers

1B/OF – Charlie Condon – Georgia Bulldogs

Condon and his Bulldogs moved on to the Super Regionals and will face NC State in game one of the best-of-three series on Saturday at 12:00 PM EST. This season he is in his second season at Georgia and in 57 games he is hitting .446, with a 1.602 OPS; he has 20 doubles, one triple, 36 home runs, 77 RBI, 82 runs scored, three stolen bases, and 55 walks entering this weekend. Over the two seasons, he’s played in 113 games hitting .416 with a 1.449 OPS; he has 30 doubles, two triples, 61 home runs, 144 RBI, 143 runs scored, three stolen bases, and 88 walks.

2B/OF – Travis Bazzana – Oregon State Beavers

Bazzana is in his third season at Oregon State, and they will play their first game of the Super Regionals on Saturday as well against Kentucky with first pitch set for 6:00 PM EST. This season in 58 games he’s hit .416 with a 1.512 OPS; he has 16 doubles, for triples, 28 home runs, 66 RBI, 84 runs scored, 16 stolen bases, and 74 walks. Through his three seasons, he’s played in 182 games hitting .362 with a 1.164 OPS; he has 52 doubles, 11 triples, 45 home runs, 165 RBI, 220 runs scored, 66 stolen bases, and 178 walks.

LHP – Hagen Smith – Arkansas Razorbacks

Smith is the only one of the three finalists whose team is eliminated from the NCAA tournament. He just finished his third season at Arkansas and in 16 games this season he went 9-2 with a 2.04 ERA, a 0.89 WHIP, and 161 strikeouts in 84 innings; he finished with a 3.6 BB/9 and a 17.3 K/9. Through his three seasons, he went 24-6 with a 3.40 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP, a 1.0 HR/9, a 4.7 BB/9, and a 13.9 K/9.

Wrap Up

The winner of the Golden Spikes Award will be announced on Saturday, June 22nd at 7:00 PM EST. ITD ranks Condon as the top prospect in the 2024 draft and heading to the Cleveland Guardians as the first pick, Travis Bazzana as the second overall prospect and heading to the Colorado Rockies as the third overall pick, and Hagen Smith as the seventh overall prospect and heading to the St. Louis Cardinals at the seventh overall pick.
