Willson Contreras and Trevor Story led the Red Sox offense today as they each collected four hits in five at-bats, as the Red Sox beat the Cardinals 9-3. Contreras hit a home run to center field in the first inning, singled in the fourth inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the seventh inning.
The Red Sox opened the scoring in the first after Contreras homered they scored two runs. The Red Sox added one run in the second. Roman Anthony grounded out, making the score 3-0. The Cardinals scored one run in the bottom of the second on a solo home run to center field by Jordan Walker. Brayan Bello earned the win for the Red Sox. The pitcher allowed six hits and two runs over six and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking two. Andre Pallante took the loss for St. Louis. The starting pitcher went five innings, allowing seven runs on 10 hits, striking out two and walking one. Zack Kelly and Danny Coulombe each appeared in relief for the Red Sox.
Offense
The Red Sox collected 12 hits in the game. Story and Contreras each collected four hits. Jarren Duran and Contreras were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for Boston. Burleson and Walker were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for St. Louis. Burleson, Walker, and Nolan Gorman each drove in one run for the Cardinals.
