The Detroit Tigers are getting set to start a short two-game series in Pittsburgh against the 8-2 Pittsburgh Pirates. The Tigers will have Reese Olson on the mound making his second start of the season, in his first outing he went 5.2 innings giving up no runs on three hits; he walked two and struck out three. Olson is facing Mitch Keller who is making his third start, this season he has one of the Pirates two losses with a 6.55 ERA, a 1.73 WHIP, and eight strikeouts in 11 innings. The Tigers before tonight’s first pitch announced that Wenceel Perez would be called up it was Perez who posted the news on his Instagram story this morning that he was getting the call. Reports have now come that Andy Ibanez is injured, and Perez is replacing him.

Wenceel Perez
Perez has been in the Tigers system since 2017, and last season he appeared across three levels with Single-A Lakeland, Double-A Erie, and Triple-A Toledo appearing in 116 games and he hit .274 with a .417 OPS; he had 25 doubles, six triples, nine home runs, 48 RBI, 89 runs scored, 26 stolen bases, and 63 walks. This spring with the Tigers in Lakeland they worked on him getting reps in the outfield as well as in the infield at his normal position of second base, in 16 games he hit .250 with a .754 OPS; he had one home run, two RBI, four runs scored, and five walks. This season at Triple-A Toledo he’s played in eight games going 7-33 with two doubles, two triples, one home run, five RBI, eight runs scored, four stolen bases, and four walks. Now he joins the Tigers hoping to provide a spark to an offense that needs to find it right now.
Andy Ibanez
Ibanez joined the Tigers on November 10, 2022, when he was selected off waiver from the Texas Rangers. Last season he spent time at Triple-A Toledo playing in 21 games and hitting .264 with a 1.027 OPS; he had five doubles, five home runs, 16 RBI, 14 runs scored, two stolen bases, and 13 walks. He played the majority of 2023 in Detroit playing in 114 games and he hit .264 with a .744 OPS; he had 23 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, 41 RBI, 42 runs scored, one stolen base, and 24 walks. This spring he went off going 12-44 in 21 games with two doubles, five home runs, 11 RBI, nine runs scored, and four walks. At the start of the season, he played in seven games going 4-15 with three RBI, and a run scored. It’s not sure right now if this injury will require an Injured List stint or what the injury is.
